The love of dr .Reem Tariq Al-Metwally and her passion in the field of art, architecture and heritage prompted her in 2019 to launch the “Zay initiative” in order to document Arab dress
Dr. Reem noted the contribution of technology to facilitating the launch of the “Zay” platform, through social media. And “we considered the first archive in the Arab world, of Arab clothes and ornaments”, as it considered it an achievement, given that it became accessible to anyone to learn about Arab heritage, and motivate the other to appreciate this heritage
Our work is not complete, because every day we add a new outfit.” The Arab world is rich in its costumes and products. This richness is documented through the “Zay” platform, so that every outfit transcends the concept of time. This makes this initiative a living and electronic book, and a “window to the world, To see it through the Arab world.” Which is the main goal that Dr. Reem seeks, besides preserving the heritage and being within the reach of the new generation for its sustainability. As for the aesthetic of The Zay initiative, Dr. Reem considers it a means by which a person can obtain On the tangible (the outfit), and the intangible (the stories of people, the owners of clothes)
Dr. Reem Tariq Al-Metwally described launching the first digital archive in the region documenting the history of traditional clothing in the Arab and Islamic world as part of the Zay initiative . This non-profit initiative includes about 800 pieces of amazing traditional costumes with details from several countries such as the UAE, Palestine, Libya, Bahrain, Iraq and others. The digital archive has been classified in detail according to the country, date and name of the piece, and information about it in both Arabic and English, in addition to a monthly blog specialized in the world of fashion, accessories, and decorations
It is worth noting that so far there are more than 800 museum pieces in (Zay Collection) from Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Afghanistan Japan, and other countries
It is worth noting that Reem Tariq Al-Metwally is a researcher and consultant in Islamic arts and antiquities, specializing in the world of fashion, accessories and cosmetics
